Postby BIGBADJOHN on Wed Jan 09, 2008 3:20 pm

Hi there, my name is John Conroy. I'm 25 years old, come from Fort Saskatchewan Alberta Canada. A little bit about me. I've been fishing since I was 5 years old and remember doing lots of fishing with my grandpa and dad. As I got older, I’d venture down to the nearby river catching 2 and 3 pound pike, luckily with in a 2 to 3 hour drive in any which direction are lakes that produce huge fish.

Some of my hobbies are archery , cooking , fishing, ive gotten quite good at these aswell but not nearly as good as fishing .Ive been in a few relationships over the years that havent worked out because of my fishing, the ladies always say you would rather be with the fish then me.Well I guess they were right but what do you do.I keep asking for all the fishing stuff to build up my collection for Christmas and birthdays, my family thinks I'm crazy. I simply can’t get enough fishing there aren’t enough hours in a day to fish for me. In the past 2 years I've began fishing lots on my own and friends.

I'm here looking to get myself out there letting others hear about me. My goal is to join a pro fishing tour in either Canada, or the United States. I mainly fish for Pike & Walleye, yet I am starting to fish other species of fish. It doesn’t matter the time of year spring, summer, winter, I'm out there fishing. I live it eats it and breathes fishing and dream about it. I drive my family crazy. But, if you want to give me some tips or tricks to this great sport we have been given, hit me up... let me know. For now lets get out there fishing' and get some tight lines.

A GROUP OF FRIENDS AND I HAVE CREATED AN ALL ALBERTA FORUM GROUP COME CHECK IT OUT.We just changed locations we are now at .

HERES A QUICK UPDATE.I WAS AT WABBAMUN LAKE WHICH IS ABOUT AN HOUR AND 20 MINUTES AWAY.I WAS FISHING IN OPEN WATER TOWARDS THE POWER PLANT ANYWAY IF CASTING AND AS IM REELING IN I SEE THIS PIKE COME CHASEIN AFTER MY HOOK . SO I SLOW DOWN AND SHE SWOLLOWED THAT HOOK . I GET HER TO THE EDGE OF THE BANK TO BEACH HER UP ON THE SNOW AND SNAP THE LINE BUSTED . THAT FISH WAS PROBABLY 45 TO 50 INCHES LONG AND FAT . I HAD A GOOD LOOK AT HER . As I was ganna bring her onto shore SHE SNAPPED MY 50 POUND VANISH LINE , THAT STUFF ISNT SAPOST TO BREAK , AND NOW CUS IT BROKE MY HEARTS BROKEN MY MONSTER IS BACK IN THE DEPTHS OF WABBAMUN .I HAD LOTS OF LUCK CAUGHT 4 OR 5 WALLEYE A FEW SMALER PIKE BUT IT WAS A RUSH CATCHING THOSE LUNKERS.

BBJ, It looks like you might have to use heavier line to catch your monster. Thanks for the report.

Another quick update. I was out fishing yesterday took the pooch with me .As we had that lunar eclipse Seemed to make the fish crazy. So I loaded up the truck yesterday and we headed up north. We fished Long lake Provincial Park. I had my line in the water for about 1030 or so, and wham a big walleye. So anyway I fished for about 5 hours and then headed home. In total I caught 14 perch and 4 nice walleye actually all the fish I caught except 1 were nice.

Funny tale of the day keep your eyes on your pup when your keeping fish because they tend to steal them and eat them for themselves instead for lunch or dinner.Oh well at least I got out yet again 3rd time in the past few days. Also on the weekend I was sapost to fish a tournament but I changed my mind as I was offered by a few friends to load up the next morning about 430 in the am and we were headed to Cold Lake which has great Walleye and Lake Trout fishing. It was the most perfect day about +5 outside sunny and no wind in my books that’s a great day. But we did well fishing also. We caught a few nice Lakers had to drill holes side by side because they are so large to pull threw the hole and man do they ever fight. It was a great fishing trip. I would post some pictures, but my camera's swimming in 35 feet of water just sitting there. None the less it’s been a great past week.

This up coming weekend a fellow angler kind of the guy who annoys other people and thinks he knows everything about fishing; I challenged him to a good old fish off. This will be even better then the Scott Martin challenge on TV because it will be the, John Conroy fishing challenge. We are headed south west to Pigeon Lake I also invited some of my other friends. Ice anvil and I are going to hook up together for the first time, we are both very excited to go out there and have a few laughs. So Sunday morning can’t come fast enough for me. I will update every one of the Fish off so stay tuned. To you all have a great rest of your week and Tight lines to all.

Here is a quick update. So as we are in our last week of our fishing season , Until it closes until mid May 16 from the 31st of March. They close our waters completely , As the fish are moving in to spawn. Its ganna be a sad sad time , So I got out a couple more times. Ice conditions are unsafe here as it stands, after 2 weeks of above 0 weather Temps have been in the 5 - 10 range with hitting 15. And that puts a damper on ice fishing really quick.I was out last weekend got a nasty sunburn and caught a whole bunch of perch , came home with 30 nice perch.Caught a few monsters, but most were in the 7 to 10 inch range.

This weekend we are having our anual Boat and sportsmen show.Which is full of boats and all the good stuff. Of course I raked in on some pretty sweet deals for rods, and reels picked up 4 of Quantum's rods and reels, its there this years newist reels picked up 2 bait casting rods and 2 spin cast.Ive only reasently gotten into the bait caster rod, but there pretty wicked make for very accurite casting.

In the next week I will be attending the FIshing holes Anual sale as they have every year . Possibly I can pick up a power Auger, and who knows whatelse this fellow will find. Always makes for lots of tackle , A person can never have enough tackle or tackle boxes or rods or reels.

Anyway everyone have a safe week and catch yall soon.
Tight lines all .
Im includeing some photos, from the past few weeks.

Its good and clear in the winter but come summer we offen end up with that blue green algae, which makes the water pretty merky and green. But makes for great cover for the fish as the algae grows thick.
